Purple Iris

These bloomed back in May and are one of Mom's favorite flowers. They are especially important to her as they were part of Dog's Dad's Uncle's garden. He harvested several perennials to help us get our garden started when Dog Dad and Mom moved here. He has since passed on but every year when they come up Mom says it is the best memorial to a wonderful man.

Friday Flowers: Lavender Iris

Mom couldn't believe how beautiful the Iris were this year. She hasn't seen this particular Iris bloom in a bit and had to capture it to remember it.

Friday Flowers

While the Iris have a short bloom season, especially with the rain we've had this season, I've loved collecting different colors that now have spread across my yard and those of friends and family, too. My collection started with family and I added to it with flowers from local garden clubs' sales and green houses.

Friday Flowers: Iris

Mom went out on Sunday to check on the progress of the big purple Iris and they were still closed tight. On Monday, she happened to look out the window and surprise they had popped, so she went out to capture a picture of them before she missed them. The weather has been crazy lately. The wind or rain could easily destroy them if she waits.

She says these are very special because Dog Dad's favorite Uncle gave him them from his very own garden when they visited him.

It grows so well, Mom has been able to give other people Iris plants from it, too.

Friday Flowers: Iris

One of Mom's favorite spring flowers is the Iris. She loves the purple ones the best. They've taken a beating lately with the rain and she wasn't sure she'd even get a shot of a yellow Iris before they were completely gone. She thought she had one ready to take last week, the rain hit and it was gone before she even had a chance to capture a picture of it.

Mom is hoping to get a weekend soon with good weeding weather that she and Dog Dad can get out and attack the weeds. When the weather has been good, they've had other commitments. When they've had the time, its been wet and rainy.

We like it when the parents come out to garden because we can usually distract them with a ball. Then we cool off under the Hostas while we supervise them working.
